Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Contract Law

What is the worst case outcome if I refuse to pay a heating contractor the remaining balance due to him?

If I were to offer payment short of what is owed, but stated on the check that cashing the check is payment in full, does that bind the contractor to the condition stated on the check?

Re: Contract Law

The contractor could obtain a construction lien against the property.

In writing 'Payment in Full' on the check you are presenting an offer for an 'Accord and Satisfaction'. Generally speaking this will hold up in a court of law.
