Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Credit Repair

I hired a paralegal several months ago to help restore my credit rating. To date this person has not done a single thing to start this process and refuses to give a refund of my money. Do I have any legal recourse? It cost $1000.00 and there is a contract that has not been fulfilled. This person states that if I take this to court I will lose as they know the law better than I do. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Credit Repair

First of all, there is only so much they can do for you since they are not a lawyer. You'd have to look at your contract to see what this person promised you - likely something along the lines of perhaps negotiating some of your debts down with your creditors, getting some old "negatives" off your credit report - mostly phone calls, letters, etc.

However, if they haven't done anything, then they have breached their contract and should immediately refund your money.

If you'd like me to write them a letter for FREE, please contact me. This type of BS irritates me - especially a non-lawyer taking that kind of money from you and not doing sh*t.

If they refuse to refund your money, you'd have to take them to small claims court, where neither of you would be entitled to a lawyer. However, I think a Judge would be just as irritated as I am right now once they heard the story, and assuming you are telling the truth and that the "paralegal" has no proof or evidence that he/she has done any work on your behalf.

Honestly, it sounds like a scam. Sorry.
