Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

improper billing

A painter was hired to paint my house. My wife has paid the full agreed upon price for the work. The painter has stopped working, damaged the house, performed unsatisfactory work, and insists on being paid an extra $300 or he will put a lien on my house. Another contractor was hired to finish the work and restore damage. What can I do to protect myself from his threats?

Re: improper billing

You can sue him for the cost to finish the work and restore the damage. You can sue in small claims court, or file your case on the regular civil docket. I don't advise suing without representation for the reasons listed in a recent blog item that can be found at www.lawrefs.com.

Alternatively, you can have an attorney write a letter to him. If you would like me to do this for you, I would be pleased to do so.
