Legal Question in Consumer Law in Michigan

Online Auction Case

I recently sold a car through Ebay. I decided not to sale the car to the winner of the auction. The winner of the auction now is asking me to pay him $ 250.00. I agreed and was going to sign an agreement letter. In the letter, it says that he suffered a lost of $ 250 because of a prior agreement that he had with a dealership. The dealership is asking him to pay $ 250 and now he is asking me to pay him $ 250.00. I later found out that he is the owner of the dealership. The ''prior agreement' was a lie. He signed the letter and the letter was also notarized. I have not signed the letter yet. Should I sign the letter back and pay him $ 250.00? He is treatening to take me into court. He is in Michigan and I am in Illinois. Thank you.

Hmm. Sounds very familiar. It sounds like he is a bit shady. However, it all comes down to the terms of your agreement on ebay - you must review those and see what happens in such a situation - however, if he is not legitimately out of pocket due to the deal falling through which seems to be the case, then I cannot fathom how he can claim that these are consequential damages - look to the contract, the initial agreement.
