Can a manufacturer refuse warranty and/or service work on a product if it is discontinued after I purchase it and is still under the 1 year limited warranty?

Without knowing more details, I'd have to say no. They could refuse (like if they don't have qualified personnel to work on the product), but since they still need to honor the warranty, they should make other arrangements for you to have the item fixed at their expense.
