Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Hi i have a balance which I owe to Gateway financial services for a defiency balance I am trying to pay off from a vehicle which I had purchased and then had an accident. I was unaware of gap insurance at that time was never offered it. My insurance did a payoff and I am still paying monthly payments to this company on top of having to purchase another vehicle. i was having a difficult time and became late on my payments for a while and had some broken payment arrangments, but did keep in contact with them weeekly. Recently I tried to pay the minimal amount to keep me from defaulting and Iwanted to work out arrangments on the rest which i was behind on. A supervisor in the collections department called me and said they only thing they would take is $375.00 and that is it or they are filing suit. so it better be paid and before she hung up the phone she said to a coworker "I let her have it". I talked to a manager abover her and she said I could make the payment but they would still send it out. I tried to get on the website to make the minimal payment and it stated I was not allowed access to the website and contacte administrator. That was the last day to make payment and I think that is why they locked me out so i could not. I called and left message for supervisor to find out what was going on and to see if i could still make the payment she still has not gotten back with me. Very poor customer service, unprofessional comments by collections supervisor and I saved it on my cell phone. I have payed alot of money , plus my insuance company did as well, and they still say I woe over $3,000. Now I think they are going to try to garnish my wages because that is wheat the supervisor told me they were going to do. Will they contact me first? i dont know what to do, should I try to contact them or their attorney ? Any information would be helpful as this has never happened to me before.

Until an attorney files suit and serves you with the Summons and Complaint, the collection agency is all talk. Their only job is to extract all your money, until that fails and it gets turned over to their attorney to sue. Then it is serious and you should contact an attorney.
