Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

cell phone bill

I just received a bill from a collection agency for services rendered 6 years ago from Alltel. I've never received a bill from them or been contacted in any way about this. The girl I was living with at the time paid the bills, so I assumed they were paid. If a company doesn't contact you and let you know that there is money due, do you have to pay this?? I haven't had this cell phone service in over 6 years!

Re: cell phone bill

There is a statute of limitations on contract claims of six years. The company chose to assign their rights to a collection agency versus suing you themselves. If you were never billed for the services, you could still owe them, but, if your credit is adversely affected, you would have legal recourse there.
