Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Collecting money loaned to someone

I was in a relationship in which the person was always asking for money. Most of what I gave him was cash, however, I do have receipts for items I paid amounting to over $12,000 dollars. He also talked me into getting numerous credit cards at low interest rates at which he said he would transfer back to his accounts. The credit card tranfer amounts totaled over $20,000. Needless to say he did not pay a dime or reimburse me for anything, or transfer them back to his own accounts. He owns a business and a farm. What steps can I take, if any, to recover what he owes to me?

Send a demand letter (certified return receipt requested). You will probably have to sue under breach of contract, quantum meriut, and conversion theories. If he is collectible I assume he will pay or make arrangements to pay when sued. Some people will not pay until they are forced to do so.
