Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

collection law

a collection company tried to collect my 2006 state tax return and then in 2007 tried to collect on a garishment. and again they tried to collect my 2007 state tax return, which they did collect but during that time i had sent them a debt verification letter stating if they could not verify this debt is mine to return my state refund back to me because i believe they were not within the state statue anymore. i gave thirty days to investigate and respond yet i received nothing. i did sent the letter certified so i know they received it. and upon looking on my credit report as of 1-1-08 that account has been closed, what is my next action to go about getting my state money back? please help.

thank you for your time

Re: collection law

It sounds like you did not respond to a lawsuit. You needed to do it and now it may be too late. Your only chance is to file a motion to set aside the default judgment in the court in which the judgment was taken.
