Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
What constitutes a gift of money or services rendered?
I met someone online. He came here on 2nd date. I picked him up at the airport and my car blew a tire while driving to school. Found out the problem with the car was more than I had imagined. It required Wheel bearings, both front, and a couple bars that hold the alignment. This guy ok'd for the one wheel bearings repair to charge to his credit card and I took care of the 2 bars, and the other wheel bearing w/b done shortly. I did not ask him to do this. I have paid him back some of the money already with arrangements on balance. He told my kids it was a gift from his heart and they do not understand why I am paying him back at all, esp. with payt arrangements. Was this truly a gift? what are my obligations here? He has created other problems for my kids since this. I would really want to not continue the relationship if this was not in the way.

If it was truly a gift, you should not have to repay it. However, you might have a problem convincing a judge that a guy you just met would offer such a gift, especially if it involves a significant sum of money. It would your word against his word. Since you received the benefit of this kind gesture, you may want to continue the installment payments.
Good luck to you.

From the facts you have provided, you don't owe him a thing, except maybe a thank you.
