Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Credit Card

I got a credit card back in 1998 and because of divorce and employment issues, I stopped paying on it. It's been 8 years and now there threatening to take me to court. I thought after 7 years of no activity, they couldn't do this? At least, it was this way back in the 80s. Has this changed?
