Is it legal for lenders of student loans to call you at your place of work and ask you for money and also threaten to take it directly out of your bank account?

It is illegal to misrepresent the legal status of a legal action being taken or threatened or the legal rights of the creditor. It is furthermore illegal to misrepresent that the nonpayment will result in garnishment. You can get damages and attorney fees.
