Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

ex-husband filed chapter 7

I just got a phone called from a debt collector after 6 years. My ex filed chapter 7 on his debts and one was a charge card that I had no knowledge of and they removed his name but after all these years they are coming after me. Our divorce was final in 2002 and he continued to charge on it for another year. I don't know what to do. I have struggled and have never been late on my mortgage or anyother bill in 6 years. Now this. What can I do? Thank you for your help.

Re: ex-husband filed chapter 7

The statute of limitation on breach of contract is six years. They are undoubtedly filing because the statute is near lapsing. You should check timelines carefully because they may be too late. Unfortunately, you are responsible for this debt if your name is still on it. You can however sue your ex.
