does ex-wife owe $ on hospital bill of husband during marriage?

my daughter who will be divorced from her present husband in january of 07 (married for 2-1/2 years)is wondering if she is responsible for 1/2 of his debt on a hospital bill of $21,000 (broken arm) if he does not collect on his lawsuit against 2nd party who broke his arm? lawsuit is due to come up in june of 07.

If it her husband's medical bill, she should not be responsible for it unless she personally guaranteed it by voluntarily becoming the responsible party.
