Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

my ex girlfriend wants me to pay her for last years rent that she agreed to take care of until i got a job. I got a job but the money adds up to $3000 and she wants it now. i was not on the lease nor did is sign any legal contracts that bind me to to paying her but i still plan to eventually. Could she take this to court and win? does she have a case against me? I dont have the money to give her yet.
