Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Old legal debt-discharge of lein

I recently found out that a constructrion lein (filed in 2001)against my home had not been discharged even though the law suit was settled in January 2003. When I contacted my lawyer who handled the lawsuit, he informed me that the opposing lawyer never send him the document so he didn't file the discharge and by the way, I owe him $700. The lawsuit was for $4800. I paid my lawyer $3850 (he says I didn't pay the last $700) and my lawyer suggested I settle with the company myself for $2500, which I did in January 2003. The lawyer says I have to find proof that I paid him ithe full $3850 in 2002. Can the lawyer sue me or put another lein on my property? He told me today that if I pay him immediately he won't charge me interst for all those years. Please help, I have cancer and am trying to get my finances in order.
