Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Liability on pre-marital debt

If I marry an individual who has a $17,000 delinquent charge card debt, am I responsible for that debt once we are married? Can my wages be tapped? Can my house or car be in jeopardy? Please advise. Thank you.

Re: Liability on pre-marital debt

no, you are not obligated on his debt. Just make sure to keep you assets separate and don't add him to any of your assets. The creditor has no right to collect from you. Visit my website at www.kliszlaw.com for more info. Tim Klisz.
