Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

lien on judgment for money owed

Someone owes me money. They have lawsuit pending. Can I file with the Court a lien against any money that person may receive so that I get my money first? This person is unreliable about paying me and only makes promises. Also, what if they settle 'out-of-court'? I need to know, legally, what can I do to make sure I get money that is owed to me. Thank you.

Re: lien on judgment for money owed

You have to have a judgment against that person before you can put a lien on anything. Once you have a judgment, you should be able to attach the proceeds of their litigation, unless it is exempt from attachment.
