Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Money owed

Some people owe me money on some furniture. I moved in with them in June 2006 and I put the furniture in my name. I moved out in November 2006 because of disagreements. The furniture was purchased in

June 2006. We signed a contract that the furniture payment was to be split three ways and they were able to keep it after the payments were all made. The furniture is at their establishment. Up until this point I am the only person making the payments. I have paid more than my portion each month. I can not afford the whole payments by myself so there are late fees and interest pilling on the bill. I have attempted to contact them for payment by phone, letter (mail), email, and text messaging. I have copies of the written material. I soon will pay off the entire bill in full and I would like to know if i can still charge them with interest on the bill that is payed off since i had already paid my portion and they have not paid theirs and i then become the bank because they owe me? I would also like to know what rights i am entitled to in this matter. Feel free to be long winded when writing me back. Thank you very much.

Re: Money owed

Strongly suggest that you get this into mediation, where everyone can have their sy.

Why would you continue to pay on furniture that you don't possess? That makes no sense.

You probably won't get interest if you get a judgment in court.

If the amount is small, you can try small claims court, which may suggest that you go to mediation anyway. An inquisitive court will ask, though, why you didn't quit while you were ahead, take the furniture with you when you left, and moved on.
