Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
Hello. I am currently a newlywed student at the University of Michigan in the state of Michigan. I go to school full time and work part time, approximately 24 hours a week for $162.00. I currently received a judgment against me for an old credit card bill that I could not pay. Am I going to be garnished for this judgement?
I have a student loan in collections (even though the bank told me I was in deferment) for approximately $15,000 and change. I have tried to contact them about setting up payment arrangements but they will not take anything less than a lump sum of $10,000. I have three other credit cards that I have not been able to pay since 2007 and I cannot afford to have my paychecks garnished. Is there a way to get help with these collections without filing for bankruptcy? If not, how can I file for bankruptcy when I barely make enough money to live off of? What am I supposed to do because I don't know??

Yes they can garnish you and no you can't discharge a student loan in bankruptcy. Your best bet is to enter into a payment agreement to avoid the garn. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to get started. Tim Klisz
