Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I was patient advocate for my sister in law. She lived her life on assistance from the state (Michigan)She was mentally ill and had stage 4 Kidney Cancer. She recently passed away and I am receiving one medical bill for doctors services provided while she was under hospice care in a nursing home. The medical bill is $538. The bill is in her name coming to my home because that was her last address after I closed/finalized her apartment. Who is responsible for this bill? My sister in law had nothing. Basically she was a pauper.

Medical bill for a Deceased person. They are dead and have no finances to pay. What should I do with this bill? I was told by a friend to return to sender and write deceased on the envelope.

I would simply call the company and tell them the news. They may want a death certificate faxed. Just don't agree to pay the bill. That is not your responsibility. Visit me at kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
