Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
Point of Sale denial
Is it legal for a company that has check verification at pos with a store able to deny a sale for any other reason than a NSF check. I was denied, because this verification company also handles unpaid medical bills. Which I have disputed some. I am fully disabled and do admit to being unble to pay them at this time, however, is it legal for them to deny my checks that are actually good at a store. I have not had any returned checks.

Re: Point of Sale denial
That's a very good question, because it seems overly harsh to allow a store to deny a check, if your checking account has sufficient funds to handle the transaction ad that fact is reported to them. It's especially interesting, because if you used a debit card on the same account, there is no excuse for not honoring the debit. It's definitely an issue worth pursuing with local counsel.
