Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
Postponing a Summary Disposition
I am being sued by a credit card company. I received a summary disposition notice but would like to postpone it to buy myself some more time. In doing so, I'll be able to come up with the money I need to pay my debt. How can I ask for a postponement in civil court?

Re: Postponing a Summary Disposition
In order to postpone a hearing, one needs to adjourn the matter. This can be done by stipulation or by motion. If it is done by motion, you will have to get a date for the hearing and send out a notice of hearing.
It will be easiest for you to call the opposition and ask for them to stipulate to an adjournment.
For your information, a motion for summary disposition requests the court to dispose of the matter on the pleadings and other evidence on the record.
