Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
Potential Harrassment
I was contacted by a creditor and I believe I was harrassed. They told me I should borrow money to pay back my debt (along with a few other comments). Was that legal? And what is the legal time frame for repayment? I was given a song and dance about how it needed to be established or paid by the first of the month. I would have been more comfortable with giving the money next month instead of this month but they wouldn't work with me. Did I just give them an early Christmas bonus?
Thank you!

Re: Potential Harrassment
If the statute of limitations was expired, you renewed it by making a payment. It is not illegal for a creditor to tell you to borrow money to pay the debt. Take a look at the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) to find out what a debt collector is prohibited from doing.
