In October I hired a contractor for home siding. The job was completed and I paid the contractor in full. On 12-28 the subcontractor contacted me and stated the contractor had not paid him and a lein was being placed on my home. I have all my receipts and cancelled checks stating I paid in full. How is it possible that the lein is placed on my assets and not on the contractor who the subcontractor has the issue with?

Michigan law allows subcontractors to place liens. The subcontractor needs to sue the general under the Michigan Builder's Trust Fund Act. The sub will be able to get personal liability on the owner or officer of the general contracting firm. This debt is also non-dischargeable in bankruptcy. You will need to work with the sub to get the lien removed. Good luck.
