Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
Rescinding a Contract
I signed a contract with MatchMaker International and was misrepresented, lied to, and pressured to give them my credit card. Many things entailed between Sunday signing and Monday afternoon, but long story short, on Monday I verbalized to them that I was rescinding my contract and then I followed up with a Certified Letter on Tuesday. The law states you have 3 business days to rescind a contract, but they have put me in collections, stating that their contract is ''special'' and that is has a clause stating you cannot cancel. Please help. I never used their service, I never will, and they will not cooperate or listen. They have kept the $200.00 that I put down, but claim I still owe $1900.00. Do I have a right to rescind or not?

Re: Rescinding a Contract
The law does not state that you have three business days to rescind a contract unless the contract is for a loan that is secured by your home. You need to look to the MatchMaker contract to determine if there is a rescission period. You may have grounds to void the contract based on lies and mispresentaions if you have proof of such lies and misrepresentations.
