Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Rights as a cosigner

I cosigned a car lease for a friend. The friend paid the lease and returned the vehicle at the end of the lease. However, there was a $4,000.00 balance for extra miles. The friend made arrangements with the car company to make monthly payments. However, he has not kept these arrangements, and I am now responsible for this debt. Can I sue my friend for the money?

Re: Rights as a cosigner

Sure - you could sue him in small claims court but the limit is $3000, or you could sue him in Michigan District Court for the whole amount. The forms should be available at the District Court for the asking.
