Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

rules on garnishing wages

I would like to know my legal rights concerning a credit collection agency that is threating to garnish my wages.

Are there different rules on them being able to garnish wages when the bad debt is for medical care or is it the same for all debt in collections.

Thank You

Re: rules on garnishing wages

I've never heard of a different rule for medical expenses. However, if the collection agency is harassing you, you can tell them to stop. If they are threatening you with garnishment, but clearly they have no intent or right to garnish your wages, then that is probably a violation of the consumer protection act.
