what state do i file?

im in michigan-i loaned my brother money (6000) he's in new jersey.i mailed him the check.he hasn't paid where & what do i file to obtain a garnishment from his wages.

You cannot garnish his wages unless you first obtain a judgment which requires that you first file a complaint. You will need to sue him in New Jersey since that is where he lives.
