Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan
sued for a write off
Can a company that issued a credit card sue me for what is owed if it is reported on my credit report as a ''profit and loss write off''? They even have a pay date and a balance of $0. What kind of attorney do I look for if they cannot sue for this and I want to fight it? Thank you.

Re: sued for a write off
Yes, a creditor can absolutely sue on an account that has been charged off. Usually, the creditor turns it over to a collection agency or sells the account off as bad debt. I am not sure what grounds you would want to sue on, but quite often you can settle such an account for less than the amount requested.
