Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

sued for a write off

Can a company that issued a credit card sue me for what is owed if it is reported on my credit report as a ''profit and loss write off''? They even have a pay date and a balance of $0. What kind of attorney do I look for if they cannot sue for this and I want to fight it? Thank you.

Re: sued for a write off

Yes, a creditor can absolutely sue on an account that has been charged off. Usually, the creditor turns it over to a collection agency or sells the account off as bad debt. I am not sure what grounds you would want to sue on, but quite often you can settle such an account for less than the amount requested. My firm specializes in consumer debt and you can call us at 248-679-1552.
