Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

summons for collections

I received a summons and complaint yesturday which was handed to another member in the home that did not sign for it, I am being sued for a credit card. I am to reply within 21 days but my question is how do they know I recieved it if no one had to sign it? I would like to know what I should do. I do plan on paying the balance but the balance is only 1/4 of what they want(interest accumulated)is the rest. I hope you will respond as soon as possible. Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: summons for collections

You should have been personally served with a copy of the summons and complaint, not a member of your household. However, it is not a battle worth fighting. I recommend that you answer the complaint and/or call the creditor's attorney and offer a settlement.
