Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

I'm unemployed with no unemployment benefits, and have a credit card co. trying to serve me with papers which I haven't answered the door yet. My income for the year was only $3,900.00 but now unemployed.

The credit debt is from 2004 or 05 I owe $7,000.00

Question is what will happen if I accept the papers or if I don't accept the papers. I have absolutely no money to even make payment arrangements.

I'm going thru my second loan modification on our home. Doing everything just to hang on to the house.

If you have no income - the loan modification process is a waste of time. That's first. Whether or not you accept the papers, eventually a complaint will be filed against you and they will attempt to garnish your (future) wages, bank account(s) and/or file a judgment lien on any property you may have. Best to deal with it now, and potentially file a bankruptcy if necessary to prevent further or future action.
