Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

unemployed,bancruptcy,inhieratance,collections

I was laid off from my job in Oct. 2004.On Oct.19 I had surgery on my elbow and was not released to work by my doctor until Feb.17,2005.I was not sure because of the surgery if I was going to be able to return to the same kind of work.So I went to a lawyer to file for bancruptcy in Nov.2004. Because I was filing for bancruptcy the lawyer told me to stop paying my bills ,so I did.Well 1 week before the bancruptcy. My mom and dad passed away leaving me an inhieratance in Mar.2005.So the lawyer told me not to go Bancrupt. But by then there was already a forclosure started on my condo, the bank had repossesed my car and my credit was in collections.I tried for a deed in lieu but they would not accept it so they did a sheriff sale may 25,2005.I paid the differance on my car from what they got at auction,I settled with 1 credit card company. And I am going to settle with my other credit card company. That was all the debt I had.Is there anyway any of these creditors can come back on me and take any of my inheiritance or garnish any wages in the future? Right now I am still unemployed. I would appreciate any help in this matter.Thank you,Terry

Only if you owe a creditor money, the creditor sues you, and then gets a judgment. It would be wise to make sure all your debts are paid up to avoid being sued and having your wages garnished.
