Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Unsecured Credit Card Debt & Lawsuits

Due to my Mom's health and financial situation I stopped paying my credit cards to help her out. I just received notification that I am being sued by one of the company's I had a credit card with. This was an unsecured credit card. What happens when they sue me since I don't have the money and have no way of getting the money? In Michigan or anywhere in the US can they garnish my wages for this?

They would have to get a judgment against you as well as request a writ for garnishment. In order to effect the garnishment, they will need to request a creditor's examination wherein you are required to disclose your employment, bank accounts and etc.
