Re: wage garnishment for hospital bills

Only if they have received a judgment by a court of law can a collection agency garnishee wages.

A judgment is a result of a law suit filed against you by the creditor, usually in the district court located in the county in which you live. You would be served with a "Summons and Complaint" and would have an opportunity to answer the allegations contained in the complaint.

You may want to search the internet for information regarding the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" and make sure that the collection agency is playing by the rules.
