Don't let the term "midemeanor" mislead you. It is a high misdemeanor which, for all intents and purposes, is equal to a felony. It carries a potential 2 year term of imprisonment and a fine of $500. If you are convicted, you have to be listed on the sexual offenders registry. And if you are convicted, the conviction can later be used to habitualize any future felony offenses. Any criminal sexual conduct offense should be treated as a serious, life altering offense. Michigan has 4 levels ("degrees") of criminal sexual conduct. The specific degree depends on the case facts. If the case involves "penetration", it's going to be CSC 1st or CSC 3rd degree ... if it's just sexual contact/touching, it's CSC 2nd or 4th.
