Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
$7 shoplifting
Was very drunk and don't remember why I picked the beer. It was my first and last time. No police was called, did not sign any papers and no one took pictures. LP person said you will only have to pay fine to store.
My concern:
1. What are the chances to get court charges?
2. What should be done if I do get prosecuted?
3. I am over 21, is diversion possible since this is my first time (not even a single traffic violation or whatsoever) and for such a small amount that too when I was badly drunk. Just in case, I am keeping bar receipts of that night.

Re: $7 shoplifting
Pay fines to the store might be seen as an admission that you committed the shoplifting. If you are contacted by police / prosecutor, you should meet with an experienced lawyer BEFORE you speak with anyone else.
