Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
My 16 year old grandson got into some trouble with a 'friend' and had to go to court. Since my daughter & son-in-law had both lost their jobs, he was given a court appointed lawyer. Now my grandson, who has since turned 17, is getting billed almost 300.00 for the court appointed lawyer. Isn't a court appointed lawyer supposed to be paid by the state?

No, it is not free. They tell the person who requests a court appointed attorney that they have to repay the cost.
