First off, how could you be put on probation with a not guilty plea? If you were convicted, this should always show up on a criminal background check. I have been successful in removing these convictions as long as you have only one conviction ever. Please visit me at www.kliszlaw.com to get started. Tim Klisz

If you have ANY other criminal conviction in any state (even something as innocuous as driving on a suspended license), then you cannot set aside (expunge) either conviction. But, if this shoplifting is your one-and-only criminal (misdemeanor or felony) conviction, work with an attorney to petition to have it set aside. You'd have crossed 2 important hurdles already: (1) the one-conviction-only rule, and (2) the wait-5-years-after-conviction rule. there are some more technical procedures that must be followed, plus a court hearing to convince the judge to do this in his/her discretion. If this is important enough to help your future employability, don't do this on your own -- hire an attorney to help.

All criminal convictions appear on your LEIN. If it is your only criminal conviction, you can apply for an expungement and it will be removed. I have done that a number of times. I would be happy to assist. http://www.wolverinelaw.com
