Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

21 yr. old girl arrested for possession of marijuana

I live in the state of Michigan and recently was arrested for possession of Marijuan. I would like to know whether I should have a lawyer. 1st offense, no other arrests, around a quarter ounce of weed, found in car that someone else was driving, gave consent to search because he smelt it. I know some of the possible fines, etc. but am a little worried.

I have been a lawyer for 12 years and have handled nearly a thousand criminal cases and I WOULD HIRE A LAWYER if charged with a crime that carries up to 90 days in jail. You may be eligible for consideration under MCL 333.7411, first offenders or perhaps even the Holmes Youthful Training Act (HYTA). Realistically, if you represent yourself and plead guilty you will probably get probation and a fine. However, it will be on your record. A lawyer maybe able to suggest a plea that keeps it off your record.
