Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

Alcohol givin to a minor by a parent

Hello, I live in Ohio and was told, and have also

checked it out, that I can let my son have a drink of beer

at a resturant or at home so long as I give it to him. (he

must consume it with me present). I was in Michigan at

a resturant and let him try a drink (he's 20 years old)

just a sip. The waitress about went crazy and was

worried she would be fired. Also my mother in law

flipped out and was mad. So I told them it was ok in

Ohio. They still didn't believe, me so I showed the law

and proved it. My question is, can I let him have a drink

if I buy it and am with him while he drinks it (lets say a

beer) at a resturant in Michigan?

Whats the law about a minor drinking at home or with a

parent in a resturant.

Thanks

Jeff

Re: Alcohol givin to a minor by a parent

No, a minor cannot consume alcohol in a Michigan restaurant with a parent or anywhere else including home. Michigan has a zero tolerance law for minors and possession/consumption of alcohol. In fact, most likely the parent would be charged also with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Harsh law, but that's Michigan. (I'm from WI where the law is the same as Ohio, so MI is the oddball around here.)
