Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Bail
I posted a $500.00 bond for my daughter in law by phone with my credit card, when her case was dismissed the bond was mailed to her and she cashed it and spent it, now I'm out $500.00. Can the court system legally do this?

Re: Bail
Yes, but only if the bond was in her name. If it was in your name then the couirt did not follow proceedure and should reimburse you and then go after her for the return of the money. Have you asked her for it? If she refuses you can file a claim in small claims to get a judgment against her to pay you back your money. You will need proof that you indeed paid the $500 and that it wasn't returned to you. Good luck.
