Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
My boyfriend and I moved into a two bedroom apartment in November. We both stayed in the master bedroom and the second bedroom was a guest room. Last night, he seen me at dinner with another guy. When I came home, he threw my things out of the bedroom. I didn't feel like arguing so I agreed to sleep in the other bedroom. Sometime during the night, he goes to Walmart and purchases a doorknob with a lock for the master bedroom and installs it. When I wake, the next morning to get ready for work, I notice that some of my things are still in the bedroom which is now locked - things that I need for work (my work badge and wallet). He had already left for work. I called him 6 times, text him twice, and left a facebook message because I needed to get my things for work. He ignored me. I then broke the lock and grabbed my things and went to work. Can he press charges if
1. I only took my things.
2. Both our names are on the lease.
3. He installed a lock without consent, either from myself or the landlord?

No, he cannot press charges. Your name is on the lease. It's your apartment.
