Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

My brother was charged with a specific crime but pleaded to a reduced charge. All the court documents reflect the reduced charge, but the State Police report still shows the original charge. How can he get the State Police to change their report to reflect the charge with which he pleaded guilty to. This police report is preventing him from getting a job because background checks report the incorrect information.

Show a copy of the MSP document to the clerk of the court's office in the court where the conviction happened. The clerk will check the court file for the official "judgment of conviction", and if the MSP info is wrong, the court clerk will re-abstract the conviction info the MSP. It will take a few days for the updated info to be populated through the MSP computer files.

The MSP info might show both the original charge AND the amended / reduced charge that was the final conviction. So, it is possible that the MSP document is correct, but that people are not reading it correctly.
