Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
I got caught shoplifting $7 worth of items at Meijer about a month ago. The police weren't notified and my fingerprints weren't taken.
I mailed the fine of $70(10x the amount attempted to steal) and was wondering what is going to happen next.
The Loss Preventon people told me that I would have to wait 60 days. This is my first offense and realize how stupid it was. Does anyone know if I'm going to have to go to court? Do I need to get a lawyer? Will this be on my actual record or just on a "retail record"?
Thanks!!

Shoplifitng is a crime and usually appears on a criminal record. We have excellent results with these cases all over the Detroit area. We can help you. You can call us at 1 866-766-5245 or you can read more about our Detroit defense team at:

You will likely be charged with Retail Fraud 3rd degree because the items you've been ACCUSED of stealing were less than $200. If convicted, you're looking at fines, costs, probation, community service and facing jail for up to 93 days. Also, a conviction stays on your record for life. There are ways to avoid these penalties and you are much better off in having an experienced retail fraud attorney help you in getting you the best possible result for your situation.

The other answers are correct. You don't want this on your permanent criminal record. This can be easily avoided with an experienced attorney. Contact me for a free consultation on your case. Tim Klisz. Kliszlaw.com
Always consult with an attorney when there is any question of whether it will be a criminal matter. With over 30 years of experience in this area of the law, I would be happy to advise you on the matter more directly.
