Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

I was charged with allowing a minor to operate an ATV without direct parental supervision. It was on my private property. The judge would not accept my guilty plea. He stated I had a defense. Why would a judge not accept my guilty plea.

Do you really want a criminal record? The judge is giving you a break. Find out what your defense is or get an attorney. Court appointed attorneys are not expensive - ask the judge for one.

The answer is in your question. The reason is because you must have stated something that appears you have a valid legal defense to the charge. Sounds like you really need a lawyer involved if you want to avoid a criminal record. That's a good thing the judge did. He's looking out for you and cutting you a break. The judge cannot accept a guilty plea if there is a valid legal defense. You need to reach out and retain an experienced criminal lawyer ASAP! Feel free to give us a call.
