Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan
Can I be charged with libel?
If I write an email speaking out against my boss, in order to embarrass him and slightly ruin his reputation, and i send it out to everyone at work and his superior, can i be legally charged with anything (libel or slander, for instance)?

Re: Can I be charged with libel?
You posted this in the "criminal law" section. Libel, slander and defamation are not crimes, they are civil tort actions. You should repost your question in another appropriate section of LawGuru (e.g., torts, civil law, etc.) so lawyers who specialize in that area can answer it.
Re: Can I be charged with libel?
Not if the statements are true. However, there could be other consequences, and do you really want to risk your job, in today's economy, just to speak your mind? Always be careful what you put in emails and writing - it's permanent.
Re: Can I be charged with libel?
So....I read that your getting ready to retire from your job. Don't bother to get another - your references will foreclose that. At least you won't add to your criminal record, since it's not a crime.
Oh....you say it's all true. Well truth is a great defense. Yes, indeed, the truth will set you free!
You'll be free of gainful employment for the rest of your working career.
Don't worry about getting sued. Lawyers don't care to file against welfare recipients.
Re: Can I be charged with libel?
Libel and Slander are torts, not criminal charges. Truth is a defense.
