Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

im going to court for third degree retail fraud. my arraignment is in a few weeks. what are the advantages/disadvantages of going with or without a lawyer? if i go alone, and pleade guilty, when will charges & etc be made???? im 17 yrs old
