Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

credit card fraud

I have committed credit card fraud. I used my grandmothers name to get credit. I didn't do it with intentions on damaging her credit. My sole purpose was to use her credit to fix/rehab houses until I sell them. I was going to pay it back as soon as I sold the houses. The move backfired from me making bad investment choices. The card company is saying that they are going to go after my grandmother because I haven't been able to make steady payments. I'm sure she would not be held responsible if she press charges against me, even though she wouldn't want to, but what is it I can do to avoid jailtime? I know I was wrong and I'm trying to right the situation by selling a house that I now have under contract. I never meant for it happen this way. I embarassed everyone in my family and I don't want lose seeing my kids. What can I do?

Hire an attorney. Someone is going to have to try to negotiate a payment plan between you, your grandmother and the credit card company. If credit card company knows you obtained credit fraudulently, they will likely contact law enforcement. You can't negotiate on your own without admitting to a felony.
